Mary Silveira News 1.10.21
Posted 1/10/21

Dear Mary Silveira Community,

I was thrilled to have all of our students in waves 1-4 back on campus for the first time this school year. To see kids learning in class, walking our halls, and playing outside was a joy for our whole staff to see, and was especially great for our students!

In addition, having our first Covid challenge this week made me feel more confident than ever in our hybrid model and our safety plan. This week showed me that we have the right systems in place, and that our systems are working. I want to give a special shout out to our health specialist, Adelena Rodriguez, who managed a lot of moving parts this week, and did so calmly and competently. Our whole staff has done a lot to get kids back in school, and they are to be commended!

Parent Racial Equity Series

Miller Creek School District hosted Dr. Watson as she engaged participants in the first of four parent seminars on racial equity. Participants were introduced to four agreements to utilize when talking about race:

  1. Commit to the cause

  2. Tell your truth

  3. Lean in to listen and learn

  4. Don’t dodge the discomfort

  5. Resist requiring resolution

Participants identified barriers that prevent open dialogue about race and viewed Being 12 an important video that amplifies the voices of children as they talk about race. Dr. Watson shared The Intersection, a tool that individuals can use when engaging in conversation about race to understand where oneself is and to recognize how others are entering a conversation.

Participants will read Detour Spotting by Jenna Olson in preparation for our next seminar which will be held via Zoom on February 2, from 6:00-7:30.

Want to join us? Register for the remaining three seminars by clicking here.

Virtual Academy News!

MCVA Yearbook

We are using an app called "Yearbook Snap" to upload pictures to be used in the MCVA Yearbook. We really need your help to make this successful.

Do you have photos of your child engaged in remote learning? If so, please use the "Yearbook Snap" app and upload your photos to it.

If you have NOT downloaded Yearbook Snap to your phone, please go to an app store and download it. It's free.

Please remember:

1. After you download the Yearbook Snap app to your phone, type in our school name: Miller Creek Virtual Academy

2. Enter code: MCVA (not case sensitive)

3. Click the orange arrow next to Miller Creek Virtual Academy Select Photos

The app might need your permission to access your photos on your phone, so please allow permission...

4. Click 'People' and then click on the photo (or photos) that you want to add to our yearbook... you can add up to 5 in each attachment.

5. Click the upload icon (bottom right corner- looks like a box with an upward arrow)

6. Click on 'Category: People' and in the 'Add a Note' section, type in your student's name/grade/teacher - This way, your photos will end up on the correct page in the yearbook

7. Click 'Done', 'Save' and ' Upload'

Please contact Lisa Michael if you have any questions or comments: Jon.Lisa.Samuelsfam@gmail.com

The more photos we get from parents, the better... so keep taking photos and keep downloading them to the Yearbook Snap App.
