Staff Appreciation Week

This week, May 2-6, is Staff Appreciation Week! 

Let's celebrate all of the staff that make Mary Silveira such a special place to be! 

Please see below for the events that MESHSA is hosting.  Wednesday we are asking families to bring a flower for a teacher/staff member and Thursday is the day for a sweet card or note expressing your thanks. Feel free to reach out to your room parent with any ideas or questions.

Raising Money for Ukraine's Children and Pets!

Our school did a quick fundraiser for children and pets impacted by the war in Ukraine. Our goal was to raise $400. We raised $2,240 instead! To reward our students for going above and beyond, I agreed to get silly-stringed by 12 randomly chosen students at our last assembly. Definitely a new experience for me, and the kids had a big laugh!

 

 

One Book Community Read!

Now that we have launched our One Book Community Read, be sure to check out THIS SLIDESHOW (also posted on our website), to learn more about this event.  It also includes the entire book being read aloud by various people such as Mrs. Madden, Mrs. Armstrong, the three elementary principals, and more! 

Our hope is that this gift of one book to every family in our district will foster a love of reading and book talk within families, and within our community. 

We can't wait to discuss the book as a community on May 23rd at 6pm in the Lucas Valley Elementary School Gym!

 

 

Walk and Roll Wednesday! - May 4!

This Wednesday is National Bike to School Day. It's also the final week of the J.E.D.I. Walk and Roll Challenge. We'll have a table out front to stamp J.E.D.I cards.

 

*To celebrate this fun event, I hope to have students and parents join me for a bike caravan to school! 

I will be riding my bike from Oleander Park to Mary Silveira with as many of our Silveira Stars as possible.

I'll be leaving at 7:40am from the park, and will follow Las Gallinas all the way to Blackstone.

 

Hope to see lots of kids bike, walk, scooter, carpool, etc. to school this Wednesday!

 

 

Class Placement Info

Staff and I are beginning the process of planning for next year and will soon begin designing classes based on enrollment projections. 

As per Board Policy, the teaching staff and principal share the responsibility for student placement. The teachers meet by grade levels before the end of the year to develop classes. Classes will be designed based upon the following criteria: 

 

➢ Students with special needs

➢ Second language learners 

➢ Learning styles 

➢ Social/Emotional needs

➢ Citizenship 

 

Parent input will be considered if the input is based upon clear-cut educational or developmental needs (per board policy).

All input must be received by May 13th and be in writing to the principal.

Accommodations will not be made to place your student in a class with a particular teacher or with friends and we ask that you do not include specific teacher names in your correspondence.  A family may have had a sibling in a class with a particular teacher previously but this is not considered a valid educational reason for placement. Each child’s needs are unique and because a brother or sister liked or disliked a teacher does not mean the sibling will have the same experience. The key ingredient to this process is trust. You need to trust that we will do the best job possible in placing your student with all the information at our disposal. We do the best job we can because it is important to us that each child has the optimum chance for success.

 

 

 

Talent Show - Important Dates and Details!

Dear MES Families,

WOW!  What a turn out we had for the talent show auditions.  Great job everyone! Thank you all for coming and your patience.  We know it was a long wait.  We want to give some important dates and details for the upcoming practices, dress rehearsals and show times.

 

Practice dates: (Not mandatory but highly suggested):

May 4th 1:50pm for K-2

May 5th 2:35pm for 3-5

 

May 11th 1:50pm for K-2

May 12th 2:35pm for 3-5

 

Dress Rehearsal dates (MANDATORY):

May 16th 2:35pm for K-2

May 17th 2:35pm for 3-5 

 

Talent Show times:

May 18th at 6pm for K-2

May 19th at 6pm for 3-5

 

There will be a school assembly for the students (no families) the following week but that date is still TBD depending on how many acts we have.

 

IMPORTANT DETAILS

*All performers must have their own permission slip (even if they are in a group act)

*Students must supply their own music and/or props

*All performances should be 2 minutes long or less. Many acts went well beyond 2 minutes. Please time your child’s act and find an appropriate place to stop. We can fade a song out if you let us know the time to do so. You will save our team and everyone waiting to practice much time if you do this at home. Please and thank you! 

*Please send all edited music to meshsateam@gmail.com

*We request all music to come from Spotify.  

*Elements of your act, including attire, content, and musical lyrics must be appropriate for a school setting.  We reserve the right to adjust any performance as we see fit.  

*All participants and attendees must act responsibly and respectfully while at all practices,  dress rehearsals and shows.

Open House Plan

This year's Open House will be in-person, similar to a traditional year. The Art Show will be open from 5:30pm - 7:00pm and Classrooms will be open from 6pm - 7pm

 

 

 

For the month of May, we will be focusing on Asian American Pacific Islanders and Jewish Heritage all month long as well as bringing much-needed attention to Mental Health Support.

*Mark your calendars: On Sunday, May 15th, we have booked Lion Dancers, Korean Drummers, and lots of yummy food for a joint elementary DEI event. More info is coming, so stay tuned!

Life Skill of the Month for May

This month we are focusing on the life skill of Self-Awareness. This is a great time of year to talk to your child about understanding their own emotions, thoughts, and how they influence behavior.

Register for the 2022-2023 School Year - TK and K! 

The office is now accepting registration for new students and incoming TK and Kindergarteners for the 2022-2023 school year.  Please Click Here to go to our District's Registration page. Contact Mrs. Devine  (tdevine@millercreeksd.org) in the office for more information. If you know anyone who could benefit from this information, please share it with them.

Owing to new direction from the State, we are planning for the return of TK for the 2022-2023 school year.  TK will be open to children whose birthday occurs between September 2, 2017 and February 2nd, 2018. While at least one TK class will operate somewhere in our District next year, whether one will operate at MES will depend on enrollment and other factors. Proof of Vaccination

Once your student receives his/her second COVID vaccination, feel free to send Mrs. Devine a copy of your student's vaccination card either by taking a picture of it and emailing it to tdevine@millercreeksd.org or by making a photocopy and bringing it to the front office at MES.  It is helpful to keep a record of the COVID vaccination just as we keep a record of the other required vaccinations for K-12 schools. Providing this information once you have it will make our jobs much easier in the future.   

*Please note, there is currently no vaccine mandate for our students. Sharing your child's vaccination status with the office is optional at this time.
